“A Life Well Lived”
Ms. Nettie Mae Cannon – Hill was born on April 11, 1952, in Lexington County, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late John Timothy Cannon and the late Kurlina Staley Gardner. She transitioned to her heavenly home on Friday, February 23, 2024.
Nettie Mae was a sweet woman who would help any person she could. She was loved by many, and she was a respected member of the Sandhill community. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and surrogate family member to countless people in her circle of friends. She was indeed an “every woman” who wore a huge smile, loved dancing and traveling to visit friends and family.
At an early age, Ms. Hill was baptized at Tabernacle Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to Hall Chapel Baptist Church where she served on a variety of ministries until her health declined.
Ms. Hill is a proud graduate of Twin City High School Class of 1970, Batesburg – Leesville, SC. She worked for many years at the Milliken Plant in Saluda, South Carolina. Before retiring, she worked for Lexington School District One, Lexington, SC.
Nettie is predeceased by her mother and father, Tim Cannon and Kurlina Staley, brothers Cornell, Robert Lee, Michael, and Mitchell Cannon and Buster Muller.
Nettie leaves to cherish the life she lived a son, Marcus (Sandra) Chestnut and a daughter Pamela Chestnut of Batesburg – Leesville, SC; three brothers John "JT”, Reverend Jeffery Cannon and Jamie Gary of Batesburg – Leesville, SC; one sister Betty (Walter) Sugick of Batesburg – Leesville, SC; 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. With a host of special friends: Henry Chestnut, Jerry Hill, Ed , Catherine Henley, Sallie Leaphart, Romaine Head, and Gwendolyn Phillips.
Funeral services for Nettie Hill will be held on Wednesday, February 28, at 1:00 pm. Services will be located at Tabernacle Baptist Church of Batesburg, South Carolina.
