Albert C Hammonds

Mr. Albert Cooley Hammonds, native of Wagener  SC, was the son of the late Sam Jones and Maggie Wells Hammonds, was called to his eternal resting place on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at MUSC Providence Hospital, Columbia SC. He was married to the late Mrs. Jessie Venetia Hammonds for 53 wonderful years. 

Affectionately known as Uncle Al or Uncle Cooley, he was educated in the Public Schools of Aiken County, graduating from A.L. Corbett High School in 1957.  He attended and played college football at Morris College, in Sumter SC.

Mr. Hammonds was employed at Wells Fargo Bank for over 47 years, where he retired in 2007. He also worked faithfully at the Palmer Memorial Chapel for 45 years. 

A diligent servant of the Lord, Mr. Hammonds was a faithful member of the Saron Baptist Church of Wagener, SC.

Mr. Hammonds was a proud member and chaplain of the Gospel Music Workshop of America- Columbia Chapter.  He worked on the board of directors of the Easter Seals Society, and President South Carolina chapter of the Moyah Tribe, and other community affiliations too numerous to name. 

Mr. Hammonds was also a Master Mason. 

.Mr. Hammonds was preceded in death by his sister Johnnie Mae Hammonds Tobin, brothers Elmer W. Hammonds and Rev. Alvin C.Hammonds, and brother-in-law, Francis Goodwin.  

Mr. Hammonds leaves behind his loving daughter, Stephanie L. Hammonds of Columbia, SC; three sons, Albert Q. (Annita) Hammonds, Sr. of Jonesboro, Georgia, Daryl L. (Valencia) Hammonds, Sr. of Blythewood, SC, and Darnell L. (Tamara) Hammonds of Columbia, SC; eight adored grandchildren, Albert Q. Hammonds, Jr. of Long Beach, California, Shawntel Hammonds of Tyrone, Georgia, Daryl Jr. and Desmond Hammonds of Blythewood, SC, Xavier and Cameron Hammonds of Hampton, Georgia, and Lauren and Jessica Hammonds of Columbia, SC; sister, Evangelist Estelle Hammonds, sister-in-laws Mary Goodwin and Marie Hammonds; brother-in-law Eddie Goodwin, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
