Easter Samuel Obituary

Deaconess Easter Bell Davis Samuel, the last surviving child born to the late William Stephen Davis and Lugenia Abney Davis was born April 8, 1928, one Easter Sunday morning.

Easter attended public schools in Perry, SC. She was raised in a Christian home and spoiled rotten by her brothers and sisters. Her oldest brother, Howard ‘Son’ Davis was her ‘other father’ to her. He would often take her with him when he attended Children’s Day at various churches where he was the Chorus Master.

Easter was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Ronnie Arthur Samuel on January 27, 1948. To this union they had three children, Kathleen, Linda, and Ronald Gary.

Easter and the family moved to Miami, Florida in 1950.

Easter was an avid reader and had a thirst for knowledge. Her work ethics consist of Private Duty Nursing and childcare. Among her many gifts, she was a great cook and stream stress. She cooked, baked, and shared, she touched so many lives and everyone loved her. She often made dresses for lots of her nieces and cousins, sewing without a pattern.

At an early age, she joined Jerusalem Branch Baptist Church in Salley, SC and was baptized by Reverend Vaughn. After migrating to Florida, she united with New Providence Missionary Baptist under the leadership of the late Reverend C.J. Burney. While at New Providence, she wore many hats. She was a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent; Deaconess Ministry Member and President; Senior Missionary President and Member, Annual Women’s Day Co-Chairman; attended Prayer Meeting and Bible Study. A strong supporter of all activities of the church. In November 2009 after returning to Columbia and united with Saron Baptist Church, working with the Deaconess Ministry. She also continued her support to all activities of the church.

Her hobbies included reading her bible, checking on her family and friends, far and near. She was obsessed with being neat and clean, whether it was her home, family, or herself.

Easter will always be remembered for her sweet spirit and mild manner but would let you know if you were wrong and the way she always put everyone ahead of her, to make others happy. She loved the sound of laughter, and house filled with celebration, not just during holidays, but anytime family would get together.

As a child, she had a very close relationship with her mother and passed it on to her children. Daughter Kathleen was very close to her mother, and she made sure that she was well taken care of. Her grands and great grands were the joy of her life.

During the last week of her life, she suffered a stroke, but it did not stop her from Praising the Lord. On Friday, April 16, she began singing ‘Oh How I Love Jesus’ and ‘Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.’ Sunday evening before going to bed, her daughter sat by her bedside and read her favorite scripture, Psalms 23; sung her two songs, kissed her, and told her that I was going to be alright, take your rest and be at peace. Monday, April 19, 2021 at 4:30am the final chapter in the Book of Life was closed when God called her home to rest with Him and be united with her husband, Ronnie.

Left to cherish the many precious memories are her; loving, caring, and devoted daughter, Kathleen; Grands, Sherri, Ronald (Tiffany), Ronnikka; Great-Grands, Albert, Kaila, Anthony, Genesis, Heaven, Andrew, and Ayana; many, many devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
