Willie Mae (Quattlebaum-James) Davenport was the loving daughter of Willie Vastine and Effie Hallman Quattlebaum. She was born September 5, 1931. On the calm--very serene early morning of September 12, 2022 after an extended illness, Willie Mae answered the call from the Lord to come unto him and rest.
Willie Mae was baptized at an early age becoming a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Leesville SC. In her latter years she sang on the Gospel Choir and Senior Choir. Willie Mae served as secretary of the Sunday School and on various other committees within the Church. She was the beloved "Mother of the Church"
She was a stay-at-home mom for many years. But when she decided she wanted to join the workforce, she became a professional seamstress. She was already an excellent seamstress before starting her working career. Willie Mae was also a good cook. Her Sunday dinners were the best along with her deserts. Her warm smile reflected her humble personality and her love for the Lord. The longevity of her life will leave a lasting impression on the hearts of those who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Herbert H. James; as well as, her second husband, John H. Davenport; one brother, Leno Quattlebaum, two sisters, Vernetha Quattlebaum and Josephine Quattlebaum. There were infant twins and brother who preceded here in death.
Willie Mae leaves to cherish her loving memories: six daughters, Vernetha (Pastor Otis) Kitchings, Shirley James, Virlinda (Bill) James, Brenda James, Sharon Harley, and Patricia L. (William) Davenport-Thompson; three sons, Jessie C. James; William M. James, and Randy James; one sister, Barbara Williams, Philadelphia, PA; two brothers, Levon Quattlebaum, New Haven, CT and Luther (Carolyn) Quattlebaum, Columbia, SC; a special cousin, Daisy Miller, Aiken, SC; 25 grands, 33 great grands, and 9 great great grands; three daughters-in-law, one son-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
